WE CARE
Happy World Environment Day!
Friday 5th June
Hilton Adelaide celebrated World Environment Day with the release of its impressive sustainability achievement figures. In 2008 we reduced our water usage by 23 per cent, gas by 12 per cent, electricity by 7 per cent and reduced the volume of waste going to landfill by nearly 10 per cent, all despite an increase in our business levels over the previous year. We have done a lot of work behind the scenes and are delighted by the enthusiasm of our team and guests”.
Hilton Adelaide was not about to let the factors of operating a 28 year old building, accommodating for more than 170,000 guests and the serving of more than 300,000 meals annually stand in the way of becoming a more sustainable business!

Choose Wisely
Put the chicken before the egg
Hilton Adelaide has become the first South Australian business to register as an RSPCA Choose Wisely advocate. ‘Choose Wisely’ is an innovative campaign that aims to rid
Australians eat three billion eggs every year of which 72% come from hens housed in battery cages. The Hilton uses over 320,000 cage-free eggs each year and is renowned for its animal welfare ethos. The RSPCA has long condemned battery egg farms and hopes that the combination of consumers buying free range eggs and choosing to eat at accredited restaurants will see a substantial drop in the demand for caged eggs nationwide.
What on Earth?
Waste Products
Hilton Adelaide and Griffin Press, have in common initiatives to combine waste products from our businesses, saving an estimated 700 tonnes of combined landfill annually. Securing the services of a waste management company, a new home has been found for the paper dust created by the binding process at Griffin Press and food waste from Hilton Adelaide, at landscaping supply company Jeffries, where it is combined and turned into compost.
In February 2008, Hilton Adelaide installed pink food waste bins into its kitchens. This food waste is regularly collected by Food Waste Recyclers, saving around 7 tonnes of food waste each month from landfill. Look out for our stylish new recycling bins around the hotel when you next vist. Help us to reduce, reuse and recycle.
